How We Evaluate PC Builds

We evaluate PC-building component classes through research-based spec and engineering analysis, not hands-on lab benchmarking of every combination: we compare manufacturer specifications (PSU wattage/80 Plus certification, CPU/GPU TDP and power-connector ratings, PCIe generation) against established independent benchmark methodology conventions. We do not claim to have physically built and tested every listed combination, never publish prices or star ratings, always name at least one honest tradeoff, and never invent an exact ASIN — every product link is a live, tagged Amazon search.

The PC-building content space is full of exact "parts lists" that go stale within a season, and marketing numbers (GPD-style wattage inflation for PSUs, bare MT/s or PCIe-generation numbers with no real-world context) presented without explaining what they actually mean for a build. We compete where the answer is a citable engineering fact those pages skip: the real system-draw-vs-PSU-wattage gap, the RAM-speed and NVMe-generation diminishing-returns curves, the mesh-vs-glass airflow delta, the GPU power-connector safety record, and the honest logic behind (or against) a bottleneck calculator. No. We don't buy or lab-test every configuration. Every recommendation is a research-based analysis built from manufacturer specifications (TDP, wattage, PCIe generation, connector ratings) and independent benchmark methodology in the style of established outlets like GamersNexus — not our own lab results. We say this plainly so you can weigh our picks accordingly.

Prices change daily and exact SKUs go out of stock — a fixed parts list goes stale within months. We name component CLASSES (a current-gen tier, a wattage/certification band, an airflow class) and link to a live Amazon search for each, so the list stays useful even as specific models rotate in and out of stock.

We don't display them. Amazon's Operating Agreement restricts how Associates present ratings and review data, so we describe engineering tradeoffs qualitatively instead of reproducing review text or numeric scores.

Yes. Every component class we recommend includes at least one honest, specific tradeoff — a wattage/noise cost, a certification caveat, a clearance requirement, or a felt-difference reality check. A guide that only lists upsides isn't useful for a real buying decision.
